Ocala's Connection Between Art & Health
Arts in Health Ocala Metro (AIHOM) is a non-profit organization that connects art and healing. Our practice includes music, dance, performing and visual arts led by artists who serve our community through participant-led artmaking. While we are not art therapists, our artist practitioners utilize our powerful human connection with the arts to ease suffering, reduce pain and create overall wellbeing. We do this by distributing free art kits, sponsoring music classes for veterans at the Ocala Symphony Community Music Conservatory, traveling to underserved communities to create art, and much more.
Artists Testimonials
We began working on Arts in Health Ocala Metro at the height of the Covid Pandemic. In a time when "hope" felt "hopeless", our Development Partners at the University of Florida sent me this video.
I will be forever grateful to Tina Mullen and Jill Sonke of UF Arts in Medicine for sharing with me the story of Moe and the Arts in Medicine Team."

"Why! I have always thought that life is art and art is life. Our senses and souls react through the color, the shapes, the textures and the rhythms. The human being excites me in the essence, the will, the power and the purpose. I am a teacher of plastic arts and a sculptor artist. At AIHOM I agree with the mission of making a contribution to my community through art. We seek to transform and evolve our lives in beautiful art.

El ser humano me apasiona en la esencia, la voluntad, el poder y el propósito. Soy maestra de artes plásticas y artista escultora. Get Involved in the Healing Power of Art
We need volunteers to assist our arts in health practitioners in many ways, including inside hospitals and in our community. Volunteers may work with adults, children or both.
Volunteers will assist with Arts in Health Workshops, help artists with reporting, complete administrative work such as helping with referrals, and even assisting in public performances for Arts in Health.

Our History

Arts in Health Ocala Metro began as an initiative of the DLM Foundation in Partnership with the University of Florida Arts in Medicine Program. Taking over two years of thoughtful planning and consideration, AIHOM seeks to bring artists and community members together to experience the positive effects of the arts on our wellbeing.
